The little girl and I have been busy. Taxes were due and will need to be amended thanks to a late and corrected 1099 sent out after my original return was submitted. My bathroom ceiling remains to be dealt with despite previous assurances and there is always housework. The weather has been great, not too hot and it has been lovely to get out for a roll around the neighborhood.
Yesterday was laundry, grocery and catch up day. All bills are paid and Mercy and I have enjoyed naps, cuddles and added play time. She is still a little fire cracker though an affectionate one. The same friend who found Mercy has also found, vaxed and neutered an orange and white tabby dubbed Marcello. I thought about taking the boy in but really don't want the disruption of two cats adjusting or not in a small space with limited doors. Mercy is happy and doing well. That should be enough. With my friends' network in the animal world, I am sure Marcello will find a good home.
Currently I am enjoying a book entitled The Runaway Quilt by Jennifer Chiaverini. She is a prolific writer of historical fiction and this novel combines elements of history, genealogy and the folk art of quilting with interesting characters. With many southern slave owners in my tree as well as lines of pacifist and abolitionist Quakers, I see parts of Chiaverini's novel having been lived among my ancestors.
On a side note, my DNA sample was mailed in mid February but does not yet appear to have reached its destination. I suspect the post office since other mail also went missing or was not delivered after being mailed from there in early January. It does not take two months for a piece of mail to travel between my location and the end point. The mail in early January was earmarked for New Mexico. New Jersey, Alabama and Florida. None reached the intended recipient and one lived five minutes from me in the same zip code. I wasted four hours of my life attempting to contact USPS to no avail. With regard to my sample, I would be notified of its arrival and priority processing, neither of which has happened. The cousin who sent me the kit sent a kit to another person who now has DNA results. These were sent from Kentucky, so I suspect my local branch is the problem point.

I think you're wise to resist adding another cat to the delicate balance of your family! But I can definitely feel the temptation, I admit.

So frustrating about the USPS! That book sounds very interesting. My reading these days is just fluff escapism because I have so much that needs serious attention in life right now. Nothing bad, just intense! Meow back to Mercy.
I look at my rescue tortie who ignores me completely except for food and daydream about adding a kitten. But I can't do that to an old cat of such indeterminate origin.
I love that you called her a little fire cracker. That's so cute. Sounds like though, she's starting to adjust. Mail problems. We've been having them too. It's nuts for sure.
Our postal system no longer delivers every day. Every second day they say - but I don't trust them.
I am so glad that you and your firecracker are getting along.
We haven't had any problems with mail, but I know in other areas it is a real pain. I did DNA testing several years ago. No surprises. Paternal side all Waspish, Maternal side hadn't been off the boat forever like the other side. It's so good to know the little one is settling in and giving affection. Good decision on not another cat.
It sounds like you've been quite busy with taxes, household chores, and taking care of Mercy. It's wonderful to hear that Mercy is doing well and bringing joy to your life. Marcello sounds like he's in good hands with your friend's network, and it's understandable that you want to maintain stability for Mercy.
I love reading about your bonding with the girl.
And a good decision on not disrupting that with the addition of a new and possibly territorial warfare.
A friend recently took in a stray and her house is a war zone, With damage to her other cats.
