Growing up
the tropics were languid
heat and humidity
induce brevity of motion...
Snow was a foreign concept,
its flakes and sheets, falling, a quiet patchwork of white
leaving midwestern streets dirty with slush,
A memory I would have thirty years in the future,
now five years in the past.
Seasons are all about waiting,
For first snows, rains, buds, heatwaves, chills and cool nights
burrowing beneath comforters, languid once more.

"Seasons are all about waiting"
What a beautiful piece.
Thanks for sharing.
Happy tt.
This is why I think it would be boring to live in San Diego, where most every day is pretty much the same. As much as we grumble about the changes, they make life so much more interesting.
Seasons are about waiting for the next season, in my experience!
I love that line..."seasons are all about waiting"....they are, are they not? Hard thing about that is the waiting part. Patience is not always an easy thing to do. Love your TT post.
Liza: Thanks, we do wait through cycles, don't we? I'm glad you like this piece. I like yours too.
Barbara: Even San Diego has weather-related changes one can experience.
Kris: Indeed...
Lizzie: Thanks for popping in, and for your lovely complement.
And I wait...one season to the next. Thank you.
seasons are about waiting...and warm burrowing comforters...love that! cuddling witht he one you love watching snow fall out the window...throw in a fire and you have hooked! happy tt!

I could do with some heat and humidity about now...
Yes, I too love the line about seasons being all about waiting. It is a very profound thought that. I have been so busy lately I have had difficulty keeping up with the blogs I read. So glad I am back on track now and so this today.
I really like that!Bravo E!
Do not like the "dirty with slush" that happens after the snow. Like best the "burrowing beneath comforters" -- now that's the way to enjoy snow!
Boring to live in San Diego??? Blaspheme!
Sorry, e... I had a comment, but then I saw that and went into a rage! A rage I say!
Er...
This is truly beautiful.
Beautiful! We sometimes wish for warm sunny beaches! :)
Oh, I know... I was commenting on the commenter. We both know San Diego is the only big city worth living in. ;)
Very nice. "Seasons are all about waiting" and "burrowing beneath comforters"... Lovely!
I'm not waiting for seasons these days, they come crashing down with undue frequency! I'm the other way round, came from the cold and into the light! I would like a wintery Christmas though.
Beautiful poem, and I LOVE the snowfall effect widget! How cool!
sure...but i would love to skip winter for a few years. I think i've seen enough snow for a lifetime. Palm trees and waves are what i could get used to!
Languid-what a good word for your poem. Well done. "Yes, have to say I am glad i only dealt with the tropics when too young to protest it!
no slush here in Colorado either. White powder mostly. Jealous yet? Sorry. Hee.
Your post beautifully fits today's theme. It's funny about the changing seasons...I seem to miss the season that is not here. I guess I could call it the grass is always greener syndrome. All I know is the tip of my nose is freezing and numb, and I'm inside the house waiting for the heater start doing its work. Summer's sun...where are you?
HEY! How'd you do that falling snow thingy on your bloggo? I like! And I like to wrap up in my comforter, as well :) cheers!
This is lovely.
So many favorite things when it comes to snow...one of them most certainly burrowing in under a downy comforter!!!
I've always been a bit conflicted about the word languid. I mean, I know what it means, but my interpretations of it can differ SO widely depending on the context!
I like this context very much.
I do love the changing of the season's and I love your poem.
I think I need a lesson from you in brevity, e! What a brilliant poem. I would need a thousand words to describe the picture you have painted!
Seasons are all about waiting. That line really struck me. Lovely poem, it'll stay with me all day.
lovely words e. This feels quite languid
and you're right about the waiting!
I so like this... remembering the thrill of moving to New England from Florida when I was 7. -j
Great poem, complete with snowflakes! Summery greetings from the tropics :)
That was a very cool poem! I think that I would hate having no winter at all.
Comforters are comforting with the one you love. Great piece.
