Monday...

The little girl and I were up before the birds, having breakfast at 4 AM. She enjoyed kibble and fresh water while I had leftover dinner and some cubed watermelon. I then got most of the recyclables out, along with a bag of trash before returning to bed. I feel as though I've experienced an adrenal crash since last week and to know that the Atlantic has since grown even more active leaves me hypervigilant.

Our return to bed was cut short by Hispanic men and trucks rolling in to re-do the banisters outside which lead to the second story of these buildings. The noise so disturbed Mercy that she secreted herself behind the bathroom vanity. So much Spanish was flying back and forth it left me thinking of times as a kid, far from here.

I got neither quiet nor sleep with that going on, so reluctantly attempted to read but was unable to concentrate. I've noted a change in my ability to handle both noise and distraction as I'm getting older. I'm not sure why. Since I was up, I did some cooking, preparing some salmon, rice and stir-fry vegetables with bean curd, That will be dinner or lunch for the next couple of days at least.

Wishing you all sweet dreams.

Like you I handle distractions less well than I did.
I am impressed with the positive uses you made of your unable to sleep time. And hope that Mercy recovered quickly when the workmen left.

I'm not surprised you're going through reactions after the tension of the last week. Resting is a good idea if possible.

I'm the same way with noise of any kind. I jump right out of my skin. Well done on the advance meal prep!

I think all of us who were in the storm's path are not yet quite over it.

You just went through something extremely stressful and the aftermath continues on. You and Mercy are handling as best you can.
